The Round Island Route (RIR), a 150 kilometre long park connector, is a part of Singapore National Parks’ plans to curate a 360 kilometre island-wide network of recreational routes. Boasting eight different trails to be made available by 2035, this sounds like a real treat for long distance cyclists!

Phase 1 of the RIR opened to the public on 22 January, spanning over 75km in its wake. The eastern stretch of the RIR, starts from Rower’s Bay Park in Seletar, goes through Sengkang Riverside Park, Pasir Ris Park, Changi Bay Park and ends at Berlayer Creek near Labrador Park. The route aims to connect existing natural, cultural, historical and recreational sites, while providing opportunities for recreational activities.

If you’re planning to make your way to the RIR, be sure to make time to check out the cycling bridges at Changi Bay Point. They offer a gorgeous view of the waterfront which you definitely don’t want to miss.

Lovers of marine life can discover marine tiles along the coast where crabs, starfish, snails and other marine biodiversity can be found. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the otters along the mangroves and coastal areas. Besides rest stops, around 5,100 trees and shrubs have been planted along the Round Island Route stretch to provide visitors respite from the scorching sun.
What are you waiting for? Pack your bags, grab a friend and gear up for a new adventure!
