Chatuchak Night Market Singapore Makes Its Return after 3 Years!

After its abrupt closure in 2020 due to COVID-19, Chatuchak Night Market Singapore is finally back in Singapore! With more than 60 Thai merchants flying over, 180 street food stalls, and 200 seats, this night market boasts itself as the most authentic Thai event in Singapore.

Top 6 Food Stalls to Try at Chatuchak Night Market Singapore

With the blazing afternoon sun beating down on us, we started off with an ice cold cup of Thai Teh Tarik (Cha Chak) and Banana Roti (stall CF6). The stall owner, Kobkhun Satun, puts on a stunning performance for every cup of Cha Chak made. To mix the tea, sugar, and milk, he puts together a choreography of graceful but swift movements to pull the mixture.

The Banana Roti was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, and had a texture similar to crepes. The bananas were of perfect ripeness, and when drizzled with the condensed milk and chocolate sauce, a burst of sweetness exploded in our mouths.

Next on our agenda was a piping bowl of Tom Yum Mama’s Tom Yum Soup with Instant Noodles (stall BF 4). Given their unassuming storefront, we didn’t hold much expectations. However, we were greeted with a pleasant surprise when we took our first sip of the tom yum soup. The balance of salty and sour flavours were well-complemented by an aromatic and slightly milky aftertaste. In spite of the heat, the spiciness added a good kick to this bowl of springy noodles.

To satiate our dessert cravings, we ordered a plate of mango sticky rice. When they were preparing our mango sticky rice, we were shocked to see them place such a large and juicy mango on top of the rice. A generous amount of coconut milk was then drizzled over the steaming glutinous rice. The coconut milk was sweet and silky, without overpowering the natural sugars of the mango. The dish was also topped off with a spoonful of crispy, toasted mung beans, which added a nice crunch and variety of textures to the dish.

However, the list doesn’t end here! We also tried several other Thai delicacies and dishes which fused Thai and Singaporean flavours:

Craving a fusion of Singaporean and Thai flavours? Crab & Burger’s (stall CF 14) got you covered with their Thai-inspired burgers: Krapow Beef Burger and Thai Crab Cake Burger with Green Curry Mayo, as well as their Chilli Crab Fries.

Woonie’s Thai Food (stall CF 4) sells juicy grilled pork skewers on a stick (Moo Ping). Alternatively, enjoy their Moo Ping Pau, which sandwiches their pork skewers in between a soft and pillowy mantou bun.

Want an Instagrammable beverage? Sip from a bag of triple-layer milk at Yumcha.sg (stall GF 2). We got their bubblegum milk, but it was too artificial for our liking. Head down to their stall and let us know how their other flavours taste like!

Other Fun Things to Explore!

Apart from a plethora of Thai delicacies, there is also a lineup of stalls selling handicrafts and traditional Thai costumes (Chut Thai). Some handicrafts include phone straps, bowties for pets, and floral bouquets.

We also browsed through their expansive collection of traditional Chut Thai, and were given a chance to try it on as well. The shop owner helped us put it on, and accessorised us with an assortment of gold jewellery.

For the inner-child within you, head down to the arcade located right beside the entrance! Exchange a $10 note for 20 tokens, and relive those childhood arcade memories with your friends! Try your luck at the claw machines, and possibly win an adorable stuffed toy!

Alternatively, challenge your friends at the Bishi Bashi machines. Earn sufficient points to level up, while simultaneously aiming to beat your friends’ scores. But be warned, each level up introduces a game of higher difficulty level! The in-house arcade also offers a row of race cars for those seeking an adrenaline rush.
