0

Singapore is home to many traditional Chinese desserts – hot and cold, which holds a special place in our hearts. We have picked 5 of our go-tos amongst the abundant number of dessert shops islandwide. Let us know if you have patronised them before, and what are your personal favourite dessert shops!

一家人 Yat Ka Yan Dessert

Fortune Centre is home to many vegetarian eateries and food gems – one of them being an authentic chinese dessert restaurant run by a family. Popular items include the Chendol, Black Glutinous Rice with Coconut Milk & Ice Cream and Almond Cream. Using fragrant coconut milk and Gula Melaka from Malaysia, the Chendol is said to be one of the best in Singapore. They have also expanded their menu to savoury favourites such as Yam Cake, Glutinous Rice and Chee Cheong Fun.

Thong Sum Hot & Cold Desserts

How often do we see our desserts prepared over charcoal fire? Most definitely not, for sure. Hence, we were elated when we found out that this store in Golden Mile Food Centre does just that. Some of the regulars’ favourites include Sweet Corn Terigu, Green Bean Soup and Ching Bo Leong. Be sure to check out their Facebook page for business hours before you head down!

Sweet Hut 甜秘密

Located along the busy streets of Geylang, this cafe is pretty difficult to miss with its neon lights and Insta-worthy colourful interior. We certainly did not expect to be able to enjoy our favourite desserts at midnight. Sweet Hut is open till 1am on Fridays and Saturdays — perfect for satisfying our late night cravings. Hop to Sweet Hut for classics such as Almond Paste & Orh Nee and even crowd favourites such as Mango Sago and D24 Durian Mousse.

Mei Heong Yuen Dessert

Located in several locations, this dessert shop should not be unfamiliar to most Singaporeans. They are well-known for their pastes as well as Snow Ice desserts. We personally enjoy their Black Sesame and Green Tea Snow Ice desserts, which pairs well with the red bean. We too have heard great reviews about the Ah Balling, so be sure to give it a try if you’re there!

Jin Yu Man Tang

A little treasure tucked away in the East is Jin Yu Man Tang. The Signature Ginger Milk Pudding is extremely well-balanced and melt-in-your-mouth silky. Take note that it is freshly made to order, and hence, is not available for takeaway. On top of that, they too offer an extensive menu of sweet and savoury options, so you don’t ever have to worry about running out of choices.
