Swensen’s has just launched their new line of lookalike ice creams, with this year’s rendition looking just like nuggets. It was released on 31 March, just in time for April Fools! They are sold in boxes of 6 ($8.80), 9 ($12.80), and 12 ($15.80), as well as in a pint of 18 ($21.60).
Like last year’s fried chicken ice cream, the ‘nuggets’ this year are made entirely of sweet ingredients but look convincingly like nuggets. They come in a paper box that resembles your typical burger packaging and two sauces that look like ketchup and mayonnaise, adding to the element of realism. They were also irregularly shaped, making them look even more like nuggets!
Each piece is coated in crispy cereal bits to emulate the crispy, golden brown skin of deep-fried nuggets. To be honest, we weren’t expecting much from this dessert, but the crunch of the cereal coating shocked us! It wasn’t soggy and remained crunchy even when the ice cream inside started melting.
Although each nugget is filled with the same ice cream flavour – Swensen’s signature vanilla ice cream, we couldn’t stop reaching for more! The creamy, icy goodness paired with that crisp outer layer definitely makes for one addictive treat.
The ‘ketchup’ was made of strawberry jam, adding a nice tang to the milkiness of the ice cream. There were also preserved strawberry chunks inside, which provided an even wider range of textures!
The ‘mayonnaise’ tasted somewhat like a white chocolate sauce, but it was a little too sweet for my liking.
These nuggets greatly exceeded our expectations, and we enjoyed eating them! They’re also priced reasonably, so we really recommend trying them out. There has yet to be an official statement on when these nuggets will be available till, so you should make your way down to the nearest Swensen’s ASAP!
