Dignity Kitchen – Where Local Food Meets Social Good

Having driven past Dignity Kitchen a couple of times, the bright red walls have always caught my attention. Curious about what this place was about, I soon found out that this was a food court run by Project Dignity.

Project Dignity’s mission has been to restore dignity to the differently-abled and disadvantaged through vocation with passion. Dignity Kitchen consists of 7 stalls run by selling a huge variety of hawker food ranging from Wanton Mee, Claypot Rice, Fish and Chips, rojak and more! Several vegetarian options are also available!

We came on a weekend afternoon and many of the seats were occupied. The food court is not air-conditioned but the high ceilings do help to encourage more air ventilation which is much needed on a sunny day.

All orders have to be made at a central cashier, instead of at individual stores. Do take note that the food might take a little longer than other food courts. Once your food is ready, your order number will flash on a large screen which signals that you can proceed to the store for collection.

What stood out for us was the Fish and Chips. The batter came crispy, encasing a succulent and juicy filet. Portions are also on the larger side. Even though there is nothing much to call out for the sides, at just $6.50, this plate is seriously a steal. The Kolo Mee and Vegetarian Claypot Rice tasted decent, but perhaps, we’ll try something else during our next visit!

To our surprise, we were told that all their pastries are handmade in-store. They even grow their own herbs like rosemary which are used in the dishes sold. The Double Chocolate Muffin was pretty moist and not overly sweet.

Dignity Kitchen’s mission is truly commendable. Do drop by to show your support and enjoy a satisfying meal while you’re at it!
