In need of a date idea or just looking for a simple artsy-fartsy activity to do with the girls? Head down to The Pouring Co. for an art jamming session where you can DIY your very own bear! Expect to be spoiled for choice as you let your creative brains run wild, mixing your favourite colour combinations to customise your bear.
Oh, and did I mention the $3 off each bear for the entire month of July as part of their July Promotion?
Just with a simple booking and payment made through Whatsapp, my colleague and I headed down to this quaint little studio at Pemimpin Drive. We were greeted by the friendly staff who had laid out the materials needed for our session – disposable gloves and an apron to prevent any paint from getting on our clothes.
We decided to go for their 23cm bear which cost us $35 each, instead of the usual $38. An 8cm keychain bear was also given to us to DIY. Unfortunately, we were informed that the free keychain promotion has been fully redeemed.
Regardless, for those who are looking for a slightly smaller bear to display, they do offer an 18cm bear for $25. The 18cm bear is currently out of stock but keep your eyes peeled for when they return! The Pouring Co. also have bears in 33cm ($55), 53cm ($85) and a whopping 75cm ($145) as well.
The Experience
After wracking my brains choosing 3 out of the 16 colours they have available, I chose white, teal and blue for a sky-blue effect. Do note that additional colours are sold at $2 per bottle.
My colleague on the other hand chose navy, gold and red. Layer by layer, we added the paint in a cup starting with the lightest colour. Using the paintbrush provided, we created a marbling effect with the paint before pouring it over the bear. Remember not to stir too much though, or risk the colours mixing together. Or, if you want to create new colours with your selected 3, feel free to do so!
Starting from the body, then moving to the back and finally the head, all we had to do was pour the paint, sit back and watch the unique patterns form as it dripped down to the tray. To fill the gaps, we used the spoon provided too.
Simple as that!
The Aftermath
We ended up creating a little bit of a mess in the midst of having fun but it sure was worth it. Our session took about an hour or so but if you opt for the bigger bears, it definitely will take a longer time to complete.
The Product
Upon coating the entire bear, we had to bid farewell to our personalised bears for them to dry in the workshop for the next 2 to 4 days. Needless to say, even as I’m writing this, I am genuinely so excited to head back down to collect my work.
They also have a photo area for a mini photo shoot with your buds and your very own creation!
