Singapore might be a terrific place to eat, shop, and enjoy the city lights. But, if you need a break from the concrete jungle, the good news is that green space and fresh air are not far away. You will not run out of outdoor activities in Singapore, with dozens of beautiful parks, hiking routes that take you high above the forest canopy, and gardens in the middle of the commercial area.
Hike across Any of Singapore’s Lovely Green Parks
While we may not have large mountains to hike in Singapore, we do have lots of natural reserves and parks to explore, packed with beautiful boardwalks and lush greenery. Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill, Hort Park, Kent Ridge Park, and Labrador Nature Reserve are all connected by the Southern Ridges. A hike here would provide you an excellent photo opportunity.
Cycle Through the Punggol Waterway

Punggol Waterway is one of the most beautiful bicycle pathways on the island in the North Eastern of Singapore. It is part of the North Eastern Riverine Loop, which connects parks, reservoirs, and waterways over a distance of 26 kilometres. Several stores, like Bikes@Waterway, rent bikes for as little as $8 per hour. Along the tranquil path, past suspension bridges, children’s playgrounds, and cafes as you cycle along the beach and its tributaries. Keep a look out for kingfishers, herons, and even the occasional monitor lizard in this popular bird-watching spot. Make a half-day journey there; you’ll almost certainly be the only tourist around.
Kayak through the Mangroves
Pulau Ubin is Singapore’s other offshore island, located close off the coast of Changi. Spend a day riding, hiking, or kayaking here! Wildlife such as kingfishers, hornbills, otters, and even dolphins have been observed in the mangroves. and let the experienced guide lead you on a journey through the Singaporean wilderness.
Park-Hopping along the Southern Ridges
This 10-kilometer connector connects four parks and one nature reserve, providing panoramic views of the city and countless photo opportunities. If you do not have time to complete the entire route, the 5km hiking trail through Kent Ridge Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park, and Mount Faber Park is a good alternative. Henderson Waves, a curved bridge designed to look like waves, connects the two.
Visit the Southern Islands and Go Island Hopping
On an island-hopping day trip from Singapore, visit the country’s offshore southern islands. This is an excellent alternative if you have had to postpone your beach vacation plans. Enjoy the beaches of Lazarus Island, then visit St. John’s Island to view the marine life conservation efforts before travelling to Kusu Island to see some live Tortoises or make a good luck wish.
