Ever wondered what a robot-made coffee would taste like? Look no further than RATIO Café + GastroBar at ION Orchard!
Opened by F&B automation startup ROSS Digital, this futuristic cafe is the talk of the town with its robot baristas that brew coffee with latte art!
When I think of robot cafes, images of clinical white, cold interiors would first arise. So, I was pleasantly surprised when RATIO Café + GastroBar’s decor has colourful posters, neon signs and cosy booths that welcome patrons to take a seat.
When it comes to ordering, it’s equally as high-tech as the cafe. Patrons can scan the table QR code and order from the cafe’s menu selection.
I started off with one of the cafe’s popular items, the Har Cheong Wings ($12.50). The aroma of the har cheong wings was so strong that it could be smelled from a distance! Each wing was thoroughly marinated in a shrimp paste before being deep-fried till crispy brown. The juicy chicken is overflowing with flavour that it’s hard to stop eating the entire plate.
Another crowd favourite is the cafe’s Sweet & Potato Fries which are perfect treats for vegetarians.
Next, I tried the staff’s recommendation of Angel Hair Pasta with Gratinated Tiger Prawn ($24.90). The dish comes with two large black tiger prawns topped with a torched thyme emulsion and a chilled angel hair pasta seasoned with truffle and tobiko. The pasta was done al dente and has a refreshing aftertaste.
Try out the cafe’s other tasty mains, such as the popular Seafood Laksa Cream Linguine, Oppa!! Impossible Naked Burger, and more!
Finally, I got to try the cafe’s coffee, which is made by their unique robot barista, The Super Manual. The robot barista showcases its skills through the viewing glass as it efficiently brews and creates beautiful cups of coffee at its robo-tips!
I tried the Caffe Latte ($5.50), which offers customisations for its temperature, caffeine strength and beans. I went with 2 shots with Gachala beans that came with a perfectly drawn latte art, and the taste was thick and creamy.
